Adez was a city-state located in the northeast region of Greece. It was on the north coast of the Aegean Sea, southwest of the Black Sea, and north east of the Mediterranean. Its coordinates were approximately 27 degrees east and 42 degrees north. The population was 175,000 people overall, including citizens, women, children, slaves, and outsiders. It was located on a relatively large river, and had a mountain range nearby for a good view of any oncoming ships or ambushes. Due to the fertile land that the river supports, the citizens were able to grow grains such as wheat and barley, as well as grapes and olives. Adez, as a whole, was a convenient place to live.
