Government
The government Adez used was an oligarchy, a
government where multiple, high-ranking members of the business class control
the city-state and its laws. This was useful because Adez was mainly based on
business, and these members in the business class always got the most
education, so they knew what they were doing in terms of trading, law
enforcement, and military. These members were always men, similar to Athens.
Adez supported a capitalist economy, meaning that the government didn’t
interfere with what businesses did; the businesses were started, controlled,
and ended by the people. Workers were hired at age sixteen; this was also when
men could join a form of military, if they wished. They then retired at age 45,
since Greek men usually only lived to around sixty or seventy. Adez’s
government showed much success in Ancient Greece.
